coldplay website...

I liked the simple layout of this website, it was not too crowded and was easy to find things but i also thought that it was slightly boring. There was not alot of colour on the website and there was no images on the homepage. I liked the idea of having a separate page for the latest videos, as alot of the other bands websites which i looked at had clips of videos on the homepage. I thought that this made it harder to find other information and links and made the homepage look crowded.

This is another of my mock album covers. I found this photo on www.pbase.com. I stayed with the idea of just having the artists face on the cover, with a plain simple background because this is what i would like to do as my final album cover. Instead of having a black and white image i edited the image to give it more colour. I experimented and tried out different places to put the text on the album cover, i thought that at the bottom was the best place for this image because it didn't hide any of the artists face. I also experimented with the different fonts and colours of the text and decided to use white text because it contrasted with the dark part of the photo and stood out well.

I have been practising using photoshop and creating some mock designs of an album cover.

I found some photos of people on the internet and have edited them on photoshop and added in some text. I tried out some different font styles.

I found this photo on www.pbase.com. Originally the image was in colour so i experimented by editing the colours. Eventually i decided to have the image as monochrome as it made the image more interesting. I also experimented with the fonts, and different places to put the text, i tried in the centre of the cover, the bottom, but then finally decided to have the name of the artist in a large font at the top, and the name of the album in a slightly smaller font at the bottom.

I liked the colour scheme of this website, they matched the colours on her latest album cover, pocket full of sunshine. There is alot of images of the artist on the home page of the website, the images are quite large which take up most of the screen when looking at the website, i dont think that this is a good idea because the text on the website is small. Also, the links at the top and bottom of the page are not as clear as they could be, the text is quite small, and when i do my own website i would like the font of the links to be bigger and clearer so they stand out more against the other text on the website.
I want to make an album cover in a similar style to the ones which i have already looked at where there is an image of the artists face, close up, and the name of the artist and album. I will take photos of a friend. I will edit the images on photoshop. The photos of her face will have to be quite close up for the CD cover but i might also need other photos from a distance for the website. I liked the websites which had a lot of images of the artists and would like mine to include something like this.

The photos could be taken in many different locations, i would like my artist to be against a plain simple background, it could be a light or dark colour. I will need to take photos of the 'artist' against a plain background and the color of it could be edited on photoshop.

I will edit the photos using photoshop to try and make them look more professional, i want to experiment and try changing the colours of the images, trying black and white, and making the colours in certain parts of the image stand out more than others to see what works best and what styles i like best for my own album cover. when i am happy with the final image for the cover, i will add the text and anything else needed to make it complete.

Websites research

I really like the style and layout of this website. There is clear links at the top of the home page and most of the text on the website is clear and easy to read. There are many images of the artist and also a music video at the top of the page. I really like the way the information on the website is set out because it is easy to find things such as tour dates and latest releases and videos on the homepage.

The links on the website remain in the same place (at the top) no matter what page the viewer is looking at, this is good because it makes it easier because they do not have to spend alot of time searching around for the links as they have not moved anywhere. Also, if for example someone was on the latest videos page of the website and wanted to go straight to the images gallery, they could do this without having to go back to the homepage first because all of the links appear on each page of the website.

I will be making a CD cover and a website for a band or artist which i have made up. I have looked at a few CD covers and websites that already exist which i liked the style of.

I really liked the covers which had a photo of the artists face close up with their name and name of the album written clearly across the cover. Here are a few examples:

I like how the text on this album cover is on its side because i think it makes the cover more interesting. I also thought that the colour of the text was a good choice because it went well with the image which is mainly made up of natural colours like green and brown, it was not too bright but it was still easy to read. The light background behind the artists head was another thing i liked because it made him stand out alot more than if it had been a darker background. I also thought that the fact that he is not looking straight at the camera was interesting because it gives the impression that he is looking at or thinking about something.

On this album cover i liked how the dark background blended in with the artists hair, and how her eyes were central making them one of the main focal points of the image. The text on the cover is clear and easy to read. The name of the artist 'LEONA LEWIS' is white which contrasts well with the dark background making it stand out alot. The album name is also in a clear font but the colour makes it not as easy to read as the artists name.

I like the colours and lighting on this album cover. I like how one side of the artists face is light and the other half is dark. I like the font which the text is written in and also how all the colours on the cover match well because they are similar. The image on the album cover is mainly yellow and black. I liked this idea and am thinking about maybe editing the image on my own album cover so that all the colours are similar and also using a similar colour for the text.
